Jan Schuijren,
born 1964, lives and works as free-lance curator in Amsterdam. He studied sociology and did his postgraduate studies in New Media. From 1992 to 2001, he worked at the Netherlands Media Art Institute, Montevideo/Time Based Arts where he was responsible for international exhibition cooperation and the video collection. Since 2002 he is working as independent curator in the field of the visual arts, specifically media art, conceiving and presenting international exhibition projects as well as film and video programmes. 2004 he presented the international group exhibition Drawn by Reality - Encapsulated in Life in Wood Street Galleries + SPACE, Pittsburgh PA, USA: www.drawnbyreality.info.
This year his eleven-part film and video programme Sex and Sadness was presented at Witte de With - centre for contemporary art Rotterdam in the framework of Satellite of Love, International Film Festival Rotterdam and at Platform Garanti in Istanbul. Currently he is developing the film- and video programme for a 40 m² Urban Screen in Amsterdam, presenting moving images in public space 18 hours a day, 365 days a year.
